Creative Tip on How to relieve Stress and Anxiety

Feelings like stress and anxiety aren’t always easy to shake. In this video you will learn a creative, little trick that helps to let some steam out. Basically, it could be summarized like this:

  1. Find something to break
  2. Break it
  3. Piece it back together

Something to break

The entire purpose of this exercise is to let out some frustration, and then to regroup ourselves afterwards. Sometimes one can simply get stuck on that one, bad feeling. Moving on from that feeling can be really hard to do – at least when you’re running low on ideas of what to do next. That’s why doing exercises like these can be very effective.

Please take care that you find something you won’t cut yourself on. We don’t want you to hurt yourself – all we’re after is letting out some steam, letting out some frustration. Some good materials could be porcelain, ceramics, pottery, etc.. Please don’t use glass or any sharp materials like that.

There’s no need for this to be expensive, either. Find something cheap, something you can smash. And that’s it. If you find something you’d really like to break, that’s just a bonus.

Break it

Let your frustration out. Smash it! Break it! Any way you want. There’s no right or wrong here. All we want to do is to do something physical, and to let out some frustration.

Put it in a bag and smash it into the ground. Or go at it with a hammer or a stick. Whatever you want. This is when you can let it all out. No need to hold back.

Piece it back together

In the end we all want to relax a little. So, hopefully you are going to feel a little different after you smashed whatever you had to smash. Maybe that was enough to change your mind enough so you could now start focusing.

The next step is then to do a task that will make you focus and concentrate. You could do a puzzle. Or considering you just broke a beautiful piece of pottery, you could piece that together. And as we try and piece the pottery back together, we feel we let go of our worries, and we start relaxing.

The alternative: We can’t always go around smashing stuff – even if it is our own stuff. But we could apply the same principles and ideas on something else. How about a page from a magazine?

Rip a page from a magazine into a lot of small pieces. And when you’re done, make sure to collect all the small pieces. Then you put them back together – just like a puzzle.
